Mock up of college magazine

This is the Mock up for my own college magazine. I think it would be popular because it has bright colours, and eye catching pictures, it relates to what has been happening with the school rather than just a plain black and white image. This is more of a magazine rather than a newsletter.

I think this is more eye catching than the original for reasons such as:

• There are bright eye catching colours


• The picture is the main image


• The masthead stands out


• The relevant information stands out in brightly coloured backgrounds


• The colours contrast so it makes everything stand out from eachother

Useful Vocabulary

Recently i have been studying different types of vocabulary for music magazines; The main ones will be shown below. It is important to use the correct vocabulary when talking and creating my music magazine because it seems more professional.

Buzz words: "Wow", "Free", "Exclusive"
Puffs: Colourful boxes promoting other things inside them.
House style: A design used every time, distinguishes from other magazines.
Strap line: A slogan
Banner: Text which stands out on a coloured background, usually at the bottom of the mag.
Copy: The main story.
Sell lines: Text which helps sell the magazine, usually on the front cover.
Masthead: The name of the magazine.
Drop capitals: Large letter at the beginning of an article.
Lead: First paragraph of a article, usually in bold and slightly bigger font than the rest.

The Questionnaire...

I have now created a questionnaire for my research section of my portfolio; it helps find your opinion and other people's opinions in what they look for in magazines. This will help me because i can then take the information i find into account when i am creating my own music magazine.

I was recently given my media task by L31 productions to create my own music magazine which includes...

• A cover
• Contents page
• Double page spread

This is the first of many blogs i will be posting to log all of my progress through out my task.

Before doing my final task i will be doing various practices using the equipment that i will need, these will include...

• Front cover of a college magazine (including a medium long shot only)
• A mock up contents pages for a college magazine

By doing these two tasks it will give me the knowledge of using the equipment i need for example Photoshop.

Ad part of my research i need to analyse two music magazines of my own choice; I need to analyse...

• 2 front covers
• 2 contents pages
• 2 double page spreads

By doing the research and the mock up of a college magazine will both help me create my own magazine to a high standard because i will know what people look for in magazines and what attracts readers to buy them etc.
